Personal profile

I was born in Jerusalem, Israel in 1977. My childhood interests included the encyclopedia and atlas, classical music, and soccer. Under the Russian classical-music tradition I studied violin and music theory.

When I was 13 I moved with my family to Toronto, Canada. I began singing in choirs and soon abandoned the violin in favour of the timeless beauty of the human voice. In time my combined interests in Bach, the playing of Glenn Gould, and polyphonic music drew me toward early music of the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque eras. I sang in church choirs, discovered the delightful concept of singing for a living, and joined the Tafelmusik Chamber Choir, a leading early-music professional ensemble, in 1990. In recent years I have grown vocally to become an accomplished singer of the genre, and have recently begun appearing as soloist, most notably alongside Emma Kirkby in February 2005.

Academically I had always been interested in the sciences, and entered university as a student of general science. But by my second year of undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto I realized that this interest was simply a manifestation of a deeper interest in the structure of reality. Because professional science education at the university level was no longer concerned with such over-arching questions, I eventually found my home in the world of philosophy and UofT’s large and varied philosophy department.

Concurrently I developed a minor health problem that was labeled as chronic. Frustrated with conventional medicine’s inability to resolve the problem, I began exploring the world of alternatve medicine. Classical homeopathy soon captured my interest with its philosophically elegant view of health and disease. In homeopathy I discovered a fascinating, if slightly mysterious, science that respected all aspects of human experience, in contrast to the science behind conventional medicine which tended to impose its limited purview on the whole of reality. This is what led also to my studies in naturopathic medicine and to my current professional path.

Recently I moved back to Israel, where I am continuing to sing, opening up a practice, and continuing my studies of philosophy at the graduate level.

I have applied my philosophical skills to issues in science and medicine, the fruits of which can be found on my half-baked philosophy of medicine site. I am available as writer, editor, and lecturer on philosophical issues relating to science, medicine (conventional and alternative) and homeopathy. In the near future I will be launching a web-site/blog focussing on bringing together disparate facts from the diverse worlds of science, mythology, philosophy and more into a coherent picture of reality, and possibly another site focussing on homeopathy, and otherwise pursue writing, teaching, and public lecturing in my fields of interest.
